It defeats your H1B and Green card application. America invites H1Bs and gives them greencards not because they are paying taxes but because employers prove no american is available for our job and we have unique skills for job. 'Best and Brightest' is we are and USA needs us. Without us the economy will be more bad.

Man, this place just needs a reason to go all-out hysterical. Seriously, what is the problem with this regulation? Employment verification is just the DMV's way of finding out if the person is in legal status. You had to show this letter when you got your visa stamped didn't you? Similarly, American citizens have to show proof of citizenship while applying for a driver's license. These are good law-enforcement measures the govt is taking to prevent out of status immigrants from getting a driver's license.

Approving 25000 485s that were already processed and sitting in cold storage will take less than a minute.
Approving meant simply running a program that assigned a visa number to a processed case in a loop that ran 25000 times. Such a program will complete in seconds. The paperwork for these 25k approved applications is going to take months and online updates of 485 approval are still trickling in.
So there was no new found efficiency in USCIS as many seem to believe.

As a follow up, got a faxed copy of the "Receipt Notice" for self and spouse from lawyer for I-485. The Receipt Notice's receipt date is as expected Jul 23rd.
So as members correctly stated that Receipt Notice's date is what matters.

That was a good account for those who haven't been to an Infopass. The procedure is near about the same where I usually go too.
I think that the AP info that you got is good...but the serendiptious (!) info of your and your family's NameCheck status bears good info/benefit in the longer term.
As for the 4 months thing, she is right if we go by FBI stat papers and testimonies given over the past few years; but what I find most interesting is that 7 out of the 8 people who I personally know, and who filed with me in June still have their NC pending as of this week. That does not include me whose NC is pending for past 4.5 months (since my info was sent to FBI!).
So the dataset is small but challenging. I am sure there are many like me. Wonder why I find many whose NC is pending in the 4-6 month range and very few (of the 68% - per FBI) whose have got it cleared in the so called 48-72 hours (after the info is sent to FBI) ! :confused:

I think Meera Shankar needs to be fired. Its bloody 2010 and this is the kind of customer service the indian consulates provide - they dont pick up calls - it takes them a month to issue new passports - Always feel ashamed to be an indian any time I have to deal with these useless consulates.
The Houston consulate does not even have their address properly listed on their website.

You are absolutely right. I dealt with the Embassy of India, washington DC to get my daughters PIO card. Back then we were asked to send stamped return envelope. And guess what, they would call you and scold you for not sending the envelope and ask you to mail another MO for $20.00. That's soooo cheap and totally unethical and I felt ashamed that our Government employees are doing this on a foreign soil.
I dont understand from where they hire these goons to work at the consulates. Usually the ladies are very rough when they talk on the phone (well!! it may just be a coincidence).

Are we just afraid of losing out to our brothers in India in future, rather than them joining our batch in the eternal wait? If we want to make US our home, at least we should start respecting another person's right to his opinion, even if we disagree. Why would it be called a gimmick?! There is no other way - if its not India, it will be China, Philippines etc. Look at the way the general product industry went? I agree that retrogression problem has nothing to do with this and increasing 150% fees will not process your application 150 times faster. But atleast when we are eligible to file 485, this could take a less time than it does takes right now. Even a one month earlier processing could be very helpful. Quality of service is directly dependent on the resources available and that is dependent on the funds.
I believe this will process the pending application faster than currently it takes.
