Are you sure about this? That sucks! I always thought you were eligible for SS after you accrue 40 points....basically you get 4 points for every year of work. If you look at your SS report that's sent out before your b'day you will see the points you have accrued.
I thought 40 points was the only requisite; wasn't aware that you had to be a US citizen. Can you please verify this information?

there are only 1M (may be little less) skilled workers looking for immigration and you have problem with that because all of them are not THE BRIGHTEST one, okay... well first understand, for THE BRIGHTEST we have EB1 which is working great. So by the definition system has already identified the need and have representation for those.

My lawyer has specifically recommended against re-filing. He said exact duplicate applications in the system is a really bad idea and could get to both being rejected. This is different from the case that if one has missed something in the first one, he can re-file.
No where in the I-485 standard operating procedure do they mention that second filing will be rejected. This is what they say:
"Second filings refer to I-485 applications submitted to a service center with
a new filing fee even though one may be pending at another INS office.
Second filings will be handled under the normal process."
Just mention in the cover letter that you are mailing again because you didn't get a receipt notice even after 60 days and that USCIS has issued an update that they have processed all application past your mailing date.

Urgency of getting a receipt is that once you get the receipt, it means that USCIS has 'accepted' your application and it will not be rejected for lack of initial evidence.

The Telugu news channels certainly dramatize the issue and blow up the story. I sympathize with the students and their parents for the difficult time that they are facing. But, these students are not being tortured like criminals and terrorists.
I believe these students were questioned by the USCIS and released on bail. Because these students are required to give evidence against Tri-Valley, they are released on bail after questioning. They pose a risk of flight and hence they are radio tagged.
If these students were attending classes like thousands of F1 students across the country when the university was shut down, they do not have anything to worry about. They can leave the country or transfer to a different university. If they were legally working as interns in positions that are allowed by the CPT, they still have nothing to worry about.
If these students were working at gas stations and convenience stores across the country instead of attending classes, they have broken the law. They are liable for prosecution. CPT is intended to complement your education with practical training. Working at gas stations and convenience stores does not qualify for CPT. For almost all disciplines except IT & software engineering, working for software consultants on CPT is illegal.
These students bring F1 program and Indians into disrepute. Incidents like this also give ammunition to anti-immigration lobby in this country.
